So, now that the lunch ladies know me by sight, they have started inquiring into my work life. Today one of them asked me if I was going to be gone next week. When I replied that, no, I would not be gone, but was working through the week, she asked why I didn’t get a break. They’re still not friendly to me, but surely this is progress. And truth be told, if they were friendly to me, it would kinda be a disappointment. I love their surly-ness. It adds stability to my life.

My favorite way to procrastinate is to look up insignificant details of what I am studying, so that it feels like I’m actually working. That way, too, whenever some med school smartass tries to make me feel like I don’t know anything, I can whip out one of my gems and make THEM feel like an idiot. hahaha. For instance, "Hmmm, yeah, I really hope the scutum doesn’t show up on our test." hahaha. No really, the scutum is one of my favorite things right now. In addition to it being an anatomical term for a bit of bone sticking out in your epitympanic space, it is also a constellation. One of the 88 modern constellations and the only one named after a modern historical figure, Jan Sobieski - Sobieski’s scutum aka Sobieski’s shield. I may have already forgotten the brachial plexus, but I will never forget the scutum.
More on the scutum: So I just returned from a trip to France and Italy. And whist inside the Vatican came across the Sobieski room. Amazing. I stared at that painting for 10 minutes (for those of you who know me, this is an incredibly long time) and forced Pharmacy Sue to take a picture of me in front of it. It was incredible. The highlight of the trip. Actually, no, that’s not true. The highlight was when I bought my Pope magnet. Yes, truly.
